SUMMIT'S PRESIDENT SEES POSITIVE ECONOMIC SIGNS

10/15/2009 9:48:32 AM
by: Dave Turner

The good news is that we are starting to see more companies reach out to the staffing community to help them fill their long term open positions. The bad news is that many of them send their jobs out to a long list of recruiting firms and they quickly find themselves deluged with candidates that need to be reviewed and screened. One of our customers told me that he did 16 phone screens over just a few days and it got to the point that not only did it become difficult to keep them all straight, it was impacting his available time to do his job so much that he began to cut out some of his questions and eventually found it hard to recommend anyone that he screened. This is not an uncommon situation and is similar to when they post a job on Monster and get 500 resumes the first week. This leads more to looking for reasons to eliminate a candidate then reasons to move forward with one. The only cure for this situation is to work with recruiting partners that you trust and that take the time to properly screen the candidates before sending them in so that you have at least some level of confidence that you are only spending your time on candidates that truly do have the skills, background and experience to do the job you have open.

We are actively looking for Product Marketing Managers, Program Managers, Sr. Software Engineers, and Project Managers, all for various technology companies with offices here in the Triangle. We have seen a significant increase in requests for help over the last 60 days which we take as a very strong early indicator that companies are once again focusing efforts on adding talent to their teams. Hopefully this trend will continue and more companies will let us take the stress off their plate and do what we do best, find them the best people available, so that they can do what they do best, create attractive work environments and effective employee retention programs so that once they get these good people on board they keep them.
